------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu May 19 07:11:50 -0700 2005 ------- I'm not sure whether this is a defect or a usability enhancement request. I'm running OOo 1.9.79 on a Windows XP-SP1 PC with 512Mb of RAM. My OOo is installed in a directory named "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice". My hard drive is partitioned into two logical drives C: (NTFS) and D: (FAT32). I encountered this problem in Calc as well as Writer. PROBLEM: When I selected File|Wizards|Document Converter, I received a pop-up window with the message "Resource file missing (com680*.res)". The Document Converter then terminated. CAUSE & WORKAROUND: Just prior to receiving this message I had changed the path of my template directory using Tools|Options|OpenOffice.org|Paths|Templates. I had added my own path "D:\_My System\Templates" then deleted the other two default template paths. I fixed the problem immediately by running Tools|Options|OpenOffice.org|Paths and clicking the "Default" button to reset the default paths. Document Converter worked properly again. SUGGESTION: Admittedly this verges on a dumb user mistake. However, I like to keep my templates in data folders whenever possible to insure they get included in my daily/weekly backups. I suspected the template path was the problem because I'd just finished changing the path before I tried to run Document Converter. However, this would be a tough crash to troubleshoot if time elapsed between changing the path and encountering the problem. And for the long time Microsofties of us trying to convert from MS-Word to OOo-Writer, the Document Converter is essential at the outset. A more descriptive error message would be helpful. Or, if OOo needs certain paths to operate properly, don't allow the user to change/delete them. Or have a dialog box offer to copy necessary components to the new path when changing paths.
