2005 -------
This is a *very* bad bug. And I do not know if this is wholly related to Open
office but I strongly think so. I installed with success the last beta release
of OO 1.9 m104 on my pc running XP with the latest service pack installed. I
then realised that the icon in my quick launch menu were pointing to the
previous installation of OO and not to the one that I had just installed. I then
changed under the properties of the quick-launch button to point to the newly
installed version of OO. From then on all the hell broke lose. If I tried to
launch any program (start menu, icons on the desktop, from the proper folder
etc...) the OS thought that the file with extension .exe was associated with OO
and then tried to open it with open office. I eventually managed to uninstall OO
(not very easy because also the uninstall program was recognised as an OO
document) but nothing really changed for me because now when I click on a
program I just get windows asking me with which program I want to open it. Now I
can do something because there are 2 ways I can launch my programs.
1) If i click with the right hand button and then select 'run as...'
2) I can launch -using a .bat file- the command window and then from within it I
can launch the programs. (this is the best way to do it because some programs
such as matlab do not see the license file if launched the first way)

The programs can not be launched using the 'run...' button in the start menu.
I haven't yet tried what happens if I log on as another user.
Of course this is most annoying and I just do not want to re-install the OS from
scratch. Please help me also to solve my situation as I have discussed it with
the all the computer experts in my organization and they all agree that they
have never come across such a mess.
