SBA-> mellonedain: Thank you for supporting OpenOffice.org.
SBA: Component set to "Word Processor", Prio set from P3 to P5, Summary adjusted
(Old summary: Bad showing...").
"Ordinary" misformatting shows letters that are shifted horizontally, so that
there are unwanted spaces or characters painted on top of each other or letters
shown as rectangles. In general, this can be reproduced with certain documents,
cartain fonts and/or certain systems. But then, it can easily reproduced (and
fixed, unless a broken font "from wherever" is to blame.
SBA-> mellonedain: since you did not mention a problem when printing this or
when exporting this to PDF, I guess this is "on screen only". Your screenshot
looks like there was a repaint problem when scrolling in the document. But this
is just my first guess.
This sometimes occurs when
(1) When a "UI object" (i.e. a toolbox, a dialog) is in front of the text and
dissapears at the same time when the text has to repaint AND reformat "at the
same time". Example: when the format-character dialog closes after a font
change was applied to the text behind the dialog.
(2) When an object "on top of the document" (i.e. a tip help showing the
current chapter title) moves itself, i.e. following the scrollbar is used to
scroll through the document.)
(3) [Just a guess] - the translation too box that can be seen on the screenshot
can also interfere with the office (i.e. if it accesses the graphics
card/adapter directly)
But repaint errors (other that general formatting problems) can easily be
corrected:
(a) by a forced repaint ( Keys: <Ctrl>+<Shift>+<R>)
(b) By scrolling the badly painted area out of the visible area and back again
(c) By forcing a re-format of the entire document
(d) By editing in the line where the repaint error occurred (in front of it)
SBA->mellonedain: To be honest, the screenshot you provided shows a defect with
the lowest priority (P5), because the only problem is "It doesn't look perfect
for a short while". Given the number of easy workaroung AND the current amount
of "real defects" (sorry... :-) AND the available developer ressources, there
will be no developer touching this issue for the forseeable future (I'm talking
about YEARS).
Therefore I will set this one to "WontFix" because it makes no sense to have an
open issue of this low priority (sorry, again, but that's the way things are)
open until eternity.
Feel free to reopen this one if you can reproduce it in a way that limits the
use of OOo. To give you a "feel" for this: Im talking about the likes of issue
27336. THAT one describes a real font+formatting+cursor movement problem (that
we did fix), have a look at the screenshot in there.
Thank you for your comprehension.
