Hi,
not a bug of Calc but from Excel. They calculate with text values, Calc doesn't.
The MID() function is a text function and therefore the result is a text. To
work logical you have to convert the text value to a number before you can
calculate with it. This can be achieved by using the value function like
=VALUE(MID())
