------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jun 16 11:00:13 -0700 2005 ------- >What I didn't like, as I stated was this comment from cloph: > >"OOo doesn't include a language parser and doesn't have mind-reading >capabilities." >This whole sentence could have been omitted from cloph's reply. It would have >saved time and not insulted me. Be assured that this was not meant as an insult or "attitude" or whatever. In contrary - I kind of tried hard to explain why I close this issue as wontfix. It was meant to avoid closing the issue without giving a reason that everybody can understand. (To prevent comments - "But why do you close it?" from those users sba mentioned) I do not really pay attention to who the actual reporter is, so I usually don't treat qa-members differently from the (potentially) "nagging" ones. I still think that the statement is not insulting. (Sure, when you expect an insult, you can interpret everything as insult). Maybe it is because I'm not a native-english speaker. > Even the part about the language parse was okay, but the comment about > mind-reading capabilities is just demeaning. I wrote this because this depicts clearly that solving this one is such a challenging task that it is unlikely to be fixed at all. OOo would 1st of all need a grammar-checker. But still this would not be enough since OOo may not know all words and abbreviations you can use in a sentence. A grammar checker still would not be able to handle stylisic/artistic phrases. Doing it completely right is only doable when the machine knows what the user wants. This is mind-reading. Again: I thought of it as an objective statement, not as an insult. >The attitude of cloph, and a little of yours although I think you were tryingt >to make peace, makes me want to stop filing issues. I think the problem is in your expectations as well. If you want to get something wrong, you can take almost everything as an insult or prove of "attitude". As sba already mentioned: It is not because one doesn't like the reporter or the issue itself. It is because one wants to handle issues fast. This means->short comments, restrict yourself to the minimum of information necessary to not fill-up the issue with unnecessary stuff that would only hinder others that have to read & understand the issue. And don't forget that most of the qa-people are not native-english speakers as well. So don't read the comments with the expectation that it will be an insult or an attempt to stop you filing issues. Read them with a more relaxed, laid back attitude. My apologies if you felt insulted by my comment. However I'm still conviced that it was OK (at least I'm surely add comments like that again because I don't really know what was wrong with it - probably because I know the intention behind it) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
