Never use "current" as version when the issue is about the software-product.
* The window versions (1.9mX) already uses DirectShow for media access
* On linux (and others) the Java Media Framework is used that supports by itself
a variety of formats and can be extended by plugins to support even more
formats.
One example is http://fobs.sourceforge.net/index.html with will give you access
to all formats supported by ffmpeg. Similar is http://jffmpeg.sourceforge.net/
that uses ffmpeg as well, but with a different approach.
Specifically for ogg-vorbis, FLAC see http://www.j-ogg.de/
Feature already there and working -> closing worksforme.
