Usability tests showed that Mail Merge has issues in the areas listed below:
* Subtask 3 'connecting fields with the data in the data source' is usually
ignored or—if tried—not understood:
o Fixed by changing the work flow
* Sudden introduction of rather complex concept of "fields".
o Office Later
* One is asked to check if the data are available, but there is no explicit
request to assign fields.
o Fixed by changing the work flow
* It is possible to move on without receiving a warning that one has not
assigned all fields.
o Fixed by changing dependencies
Solution:
Mock-up showing improved "work flow" and "Suppress blank lines" feature
Defaults:
- "Select Address List"... enabled
- 2., 3., 4, "Next >>" disabled
If Address List has been selected and all fields do match
- 2., 3., 4, "Next >>" enabled
If Address List has been selected and ONE ore more fields do NOT match
- 2., 3., 4, enabled
- "Next >>" disabled
String Change -> "< not assigned >" to "< noch nicht zugewiesen >" ('not yet
matched')
