How to make text values a number is explained in the Calc help: Index tab page,
enter "numbers;as text", then "numbers;changing text/numbers format".
More index entries are: cells; changing text/number formats

text in cells; changing to numbers
To search for a leading single quote followed by a valid number is not possible
because you cannot enter such an expression: the software converts the single
quote while you enter it to another meaning. Search works OK if no valid number
follows the quote.
