2005 -------
I just came across this exact same issue using OOo Writer (1.9.122) in the
office. I had opened a Word 2003 document stored on a samba network drive
(network-synchronized 'My Documents' folder) on a W2k3 server with the above
mentioned program version running on a WinXP/SP2 client. When trying to save the
document in another format to the same folder, OOo issued an error message in
the same style as masolv already wrote. I tried saving as .odt, .sxw and .xml,
all with the same result.

Here, too, saving to a local drive is no issue. Afterwards I can copy the
document onto the network and edit it from there to my liking without problems.
This also worked seamlessly with a StarOffice-3.x .sdw file.

Unfortunately I do not have a 2nd machine at home where I run an OOo 2.0 beta on
SuSE 9.3, so I cannot verify whether this behaviour is Windows-specific or not.
