------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Aug 21 14:31:47 -0700 2005 ------- The problem basically seems to be a cross platform issue. I am running - Windows XP (latest service packs) with Open Office 1.1.4 - Linux (Ubuntu Hoary 5.04 - a Debian flavour) with Open Office 1.1.3 (and Gnome 2.10) I have installed Type 1 fonts (the Frutiger and Frutiger Condensed Packages offered by Adobe) on both machines. When producing a file on the Windows machine in Microsoft Office, the fonts are used correctly in Windows (both in Open Office and in Word), but Open Office on the Linux box doesn't recognize the font (however, it is possible, to convert between .doc and .sxw on the Linux box and the resulting .doc version on Windows is Ok again). A strange thing that the variopus flavors of the font are appearing correctly in the drop down box of Open Office in Windows, but not in Linux. Linux only shows one font named "Frutiger". Apparently, OO uses the family name and not the name of the font (I actually modified the family name in fontforge and the font appeared in OO with the new family name). This behavior is different from the behavior of the Gnome utilities and Gimp which show one entry per font file.
