Please have a look at "File-Wizards-Document Conversion"...
The old OOo/StarOffice formats as well as the Microsoft Office formats are
comfortabely adressed within it.
I therefore regard your requirement as adressed in general, and set it to
"invalid".

In general, it is possible to use OOo via API as a "conversion box".
Please have a look at http://api.openoffice.org/ to get familiar with this.
I do understand that a convenient, UI-based "Do what I think of" is always best.
So if some API research and exchange with OOo communitiy members already
experienced with this leads to nothing, feel free to submit a further feaature
request.
As I said avbove, what you ask for is already supported for the most common
formats. We can not handle so-called "mutant issues" because they require too
much reading to get to the "current" or "remaining" problem.
Please understand that it is much more efficient to close a "mutant" issue and
set up a new one for "the real problem.
