2005 -------
The original problem was occuring when the formula was exported to MathML 
(saved).
That is the formula within the spreadsheet is already broken even though it
still can be loaded.

Thus the problem when exporting that spreadsheet to Excel format is only the
point where the problem becomes visible but not the problem itself.

The only thing that can be checked is that in CWS tl12 (where the original issue
was fixed) 
it will be possible to enter a formula like 
  matrix { 1# 2## 3# 4## `_`# 6## 7# 8 } 
in Writer or Calc and the document can still properly be saved, loaded and saved
again in any format and with any setting for the import/export option.
