No, you misunderstood my comment.
The bug was that the OOo code errornously opened the template in read only mode,
so it was not possible to make changes to the document and consequently nothing
was saved. This is a very old bug that remained unnoticed until we fixed another
bug in the treatment of the read only mode.
The fix was just to use a proper open mode in the code.

Of course the bug still remains if the template *is* read only, then the
"read/write" open mode will fail and it falls back to read only. A proper fix
for this case would need more changes and I don't see them appropriate for the
target.

BTW: you don't need to reopen a bug that wasn't closed. :-)
