To be sure that the problem is noch due to some special configuration of our
company computers I took the attached file to my private Laptop at home and
reproduced the behaviour there:

- Celeron age Sony Vaio, 700mhz, 384meg ram
- windows xp professional sp2 in english, all hotfixes as they come with
autoupdate
- has not seen openoffice 1.9 in its lifetime before, only 1.1.x
- ran the OOo2.0beta2_native_packed_en-US installer from the "Germany-Esslingen"
mirror
- complete install into the default directory
- start OOo, enter nothing for name, initials etc.
- choose "Do not register" and finish the setup
- double click on the attached file "KLHBR204_2_anon.odt"
- wait until the status bar has stopped its multiple completions to open the
file
- As soon as the title page of the document appears, press the page down key
  six times
- right click on the "xxxxx xx xxxxxxxx" thas originally been
"table of contents" and choose "update index/table"
- Now the program hangs.
- After choosing "End Now" to force the program to shut down, the windows
Dr.Watson produced the attached memory dumps and descriptions
  (attachment "drwatson & screenshots.zip")

I do really wonder what we do differently that you cannot reproduce the
behaviour, especially because I have found several other ways to force the
behaviour after opening:
A) press page down until the original "1/122" page count in the status bar
begins to count up slowly (in this moment it jumps from "25/122" or so to
"1/123" and starts counting up although the currently displayed page is way
higher than 1), then simply wait until it has reached something around 475
   and the program hangs.
b) take the mouse and force the scrollbar down again and again, forcing the
program to count up the page count faster, at a nonreproducible point the
    program hangs.
C) instead of refreshing the toc, try to make a pdf or print or display the
   print preview.

What am I doing that you are not doing???
