gcc 4.6 is a proxy for OpenWRT support. Whether it remains a reasonable proxy hasn't been investigated for a while.
We're stuck with gcc 4.6 until someone does the work to prove our OpenWRT support won't be impacted by moving forward, or that OpenWRT is still a platform CWG wants to support.
