..which is one reason why I personally wish there was a command line build of Thunderbird. The Linux wiz who configured alpine for gmail still mutters about the differences.

Nope. Thunderbird wizard sets it up automatically. You just tells it "my address is [email protected]" and it figures it all on its own.
