I had a problem with my account forwarding to a dead Verizon account and had
received no less than 316 messages in 5 days. But I will have you know I am
reading them all and I have 85 to go..... A few tidbits on some comments.
David Theodoropulos said something about "we should all make an effort to be
more gracious and inclusive if we would like newcomers to feel welcome". I
can't stess how important this is for the continuation of alpine gardening
because, dare I say, many are getting on in years and as newbies, we need
your expertise! So please be patient with those of us who haven't had an
opportunity to garden or are just getting our hands dirty....

And in contrast to that, the other side.... The comment on Kyle Booker's
questionnaire... Besides recognizing it as instant cannon fodder, as an
amateur astronomer, I compared it to the many questions received at "star
parties"..... How far away is that star? What power is your telescope?
Although the questions are sincere, you want to ignore it and say, THIS is
what is important if you want to do astronomy!! There is a balance in
there somewhere, in knowing how to deal with it most of which is met by
being polite.

And so, that is why the Alpine list is so valuable. You are telling us the
areas to focus on, what's valuable to understand, and most of all try!

One other comment... I am reading Robin Kimmerer's book, Gathering Moss and
find it rather 'fluffy'. Pleasant and lyrical in parts to read, but not
much substance for learning anything of depth about mosses. Her need to
remind us of her indigenous background throughout seems bit out of place.
So many of the 'green' books today are going for "feel good"...

Where will we be in 100 years?
