The pathogens, mostly the asexual "fungal" generation of Oomycetes. Cinnamon (timed release ciinnamaldehyde) from ethnic grocers is effective in killing them. Cinnamaldehyde is a volatile oil. Cinnamon from the seven American grocers (many different names) is usually older and not as strong. Legally it may not be cinnamon at all. There is a synergistic effect between cinnamaldehyde and eugenol, another volatile oil. Eugenol is the oil in cinnamon leaves and cloves.
