I would agree that they are most likely quite difficult to grow in any 'rain forest'. However, a number of species have been successfully grown in the UK (and maybe the US), by specialist growers, almost all from seed from folks like the late great Jim Archibald or John Watson.
Roger Barlow at Beaver Creek has been as difficult to contact at times as it has been difficult to grow a rosulate viola in a rain forest, but don't give up. He grows and sells fabulous plants. I've bought a number of hardy cacti from him over the years, and some other stuff, and it is among the best you can buy.
