You kind of have to wonder what it is that makes gardeners do this sort of
thing. Obviously the seed germinates in the wild, without being scarified, and
since, in the case of things like pediocactus and their ilk, it can take ten
years from germination to flowering, I don't see much advantage to getting the
plants to germinate a few months earlier than they would when sown outdoors.
