Just curious. Have any of you had experience growing Eriogonum coloradense at lower elevations?
I am ready to plant out several small plants started from seed in pots during the spring of 2010. According to one source, E. coloradense is an alpine growing in west central Colorado from elevations of 8870 to 12840 feet (2700 to 3900 meters). Perhaps it is not the choicest of alpines, but I am fond of the genus, and if it's not a weed and grows in my rock garden, it's a great plant. My garden is at 2900 feet (884 meters) with summer high temperatures occasionally exceeding 100 deg. F. (38 deg. C.), winter lows occasionally below -15 deg. F. (-26 deg. C.) and unpredictable annual rainfall that averages 18 inches/year (45.7 cm), most of which falls during the summer months. I'm not worried so much about the plants bearing the added weight of the atmosphere at lower elevations [:>) as I am with hotter summer temperatures.
