                Name: Abronia villosa
Note: Abronia villosa (Sand Verbena) is a trailing spring
annual of the Mojave Desert. As its common name implies, it is most happy in
sandy soil. All parts of the plant, except the open blossoms, are
glandular-hairy which causes grains of sand to stick to them, as can be seen in
this photo. The large, lilac-pink, hemispherical, flowering heads can be as
large as 4" across. It is a member of the Four O'Clock Family (Nyctiginaceae).
