Hi Paige, I got one bulb in 1998 from I.B.S. I planted it in a narrow, deep pot in plain brown sand. The bulb was planted fairly low in the pot. In the first 5 years or so, it may have sent up leaves once or twice. It winters inside the cool greenhouse, under a bench. This is the greenhouse where my Haemanthus and Lachenalia grow in winter.
I repotted it at least once, because I thought it must have surely died several years before and wanter to empty the pot. It was still sitting there, looking sound and healthy. Since repotting it has sent up leaves twice, of which right now is the second time. This seems to happen when the floor of my greenhouse floods in winter. Putting it on top of a bench and watering heavily seems to have no effect on it. Forgetting to water it for a few years at a time also seems to have little effect on it. Sometimes I set the pot outdoors for the summer, sometimes I forget to move it out of the greenhouse at all. This has no apparent effect on it either way. It has never bloomed. I have no idea how one actually ought to grow it here in the cold winters, hot summers, rather wet Midwest.
