Hi all,
In a little over a week from now, I'm starting out on a road trip to Yoho
National Park, and a date with the Burgess Shale [Wolcott Quarry]. Since this
is a scheduled, guided hike, I'm headed there fairly directly from western
Oregon. On my return, I will take either Hwy 1 [Trans-Canada] or drop south to
Route 3, hugging the US border to the lower Fraser River, then south into
Washington to see relatives in the Bellingham area.
I don't expect to hurry on the return, and would like to do some botanizing en
route. Hiking guides suggest some possibilities, eg, a very strenuous hike to
Abbott Ridge in Glacier Park [the Canadian one], and perhaps a diversion to
Enderby Cliffs on the northern route, and some hikes in Cathedral Provincial
Park and Manning Prov. Park along Route 3.
I'm also looking for hikes or roadside activity in the Yoho area to recover the
day after my Wolcott Quarry hike.
I love to hear tips for your favorite August phytophilic walking [or roadside
botanising] in this area.
