Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your email. I'm not sure how it got to me, but as it
happens my wife and I were in the Bernese Oberland four years ago. I do
not know Adelboden, but Wengen and Lauterbrunnen are not far away and
are excellent centres for exploring the alpine flora. We went in the
last week of June 2008 and spent 12 days walking and botanising.
Trains & cable cars very efficient and paths (except when you are
nearing the steep clinbs to the summits, where there are few flowers
anyway!) easy and clearly waymarked. We saw a wide range of typical
alpine & subalpine plants, and on the higher, steeper and stonier
ground were cushion plants; Androsaces, saxifragas etc coming into
bloom. Look out, too, for the exquisite lady's slipper orchid,
(Cypripedium calecolus) in damp, shady valleys.

We did not see Eritrichium nanum - it grows on acid substrates at very
high altitude.

You will be in a German speaking area, but your surname suggests you
may have some familiarity with the language!

I hope this is useful.

Bon voyage,

Tony Rymer
