i forgot to mention.  i am using red hat 8.  the initial install was to install 
everything and all languages.  i then updated the rpms from the update site and 
installed a newer kernel 2.4.18-24.8.0 for i686 making sure that the source is 
installed as well.  edited lilo.conf accordingly.  It was to this newer kernel patch 
that i installed emu10k1  I am using a pentium 4 2.4gh with 512gb ram.

will there be a problem with deleting the kernel with rpm -e when i want to update the 
kernel again?  And if I upgrade to a newer kernel, will i have to re install emu10k1 
to that kernel?
