Hi, I'm having quite a bit of difficulty getting an EMU E-Card to work properly under Linux. I've fired off messages to various EMU10K1 efforts including the parties responsible for the kernel EMU10K1 driver and the Creative driver - all of whom ignore my mail. The problem as I see it is this:
The EMU E-Card (the 'card' portion of the EMU APS) doesn't have an AC'97 mixer, and the mixer is *not* the same the mixer found on the Live! cards. The kernel driver, Creative driver, and the ALSA driver all claim support for this card. However, I beleive this is a false assumption based on the fact that the card uses the EMU10K1. This is where the similarities end. The card is rather obscure, so it's understandable that it may not have actually been tested. For this card work work, the mixer function needs to be supported which doesn't seem to be the case. The ALSA 0.9 drivers are the closet I've come to getting this card to produce so much as a peep of sound (I hear a second or two of faint static when the modules are loaded). Right now, I can load the appropriate modules and use audio applications - the problem is, I can't hear sound since there is no access to the [proper] mixer device to raise the PCM volume. Running alsamixer, I see the following: Card: E-mu APS Chip: NOTE there is noting listed for 'chip' - which leads me to beleive my theory is correct. The channels available are: Headphone LFE 1 Headphone 1 Headphone Center 1 Tone Bass Treble Surround Digital Center LFE Wave Wave Surround Music Line LiveDrive Line LiveDrive 1 Zoom Video IEC958 Coaxial IEC958 Optical IEC958 Optical Raw IEC958 TTL AC'97 These options don't make sense for this particular card. I'd like to know if this card was actually tested and known to work, and if so, I'd like to know exactly how it was done. I'd like to get this card working, so if it is infact non-function with the current drivers - I'm going to fix this. But I'd like hear any feedback pertaining to this problem before I begin. I would also recommend [temporarily] removing the references to the EMU-APS from the documentation claiming support if it infact currently broken. Thanks, Jeffrey H.
