There is also a need for user-level documentation, for example the documentation of much of the alsa-tools is very sparse.
Writing man pages is not very difficult, so if you are familiar with one of the tools and it's not properly documented, then take half an hour or so to write a man page and/or a README and send it in. (I've just done envy24control). For man pages you also need to add a line like: man_MANS = envy24control.1 to the Makefile.am then the build tools will pick it up and add the necessary bits to the Makefile.
