thanks a lot.
i had looked on takashi's page, but it seems there is a dated
version somewhere else on the net, and the page i looked at hadn't
been updated for over a year. 

compiles and works fine, i now have my midi gear set up.

oh yeah. sigh.
i can see how jaroslav is totally swamped with kernel work, but it
would save the alsa wizards soo much time re-answering questions if
the archive worked better...

sf is great and all that, but their mail archives are just horrible.
why don't they host them on-site, instead of over at geocrawler....?
