sourceforge has a beta-version searchable archive (at least for alsa, ardour,
and jackit).  you can get to it via the respective sourceforge project page
under "public areas > mailing lists".  click that and you should get a couple of
options, geocrawler and the SF-beta.

the SF-beta archive has two search fields - upper right corner and left margin. 
use the one in the left margin to search just that archive.

in addition, alsa-XXX has additional searchable archives at 

        www.mail-archive.com/alsa-XXX%40lists.sourceforge.net/

here, XXX is one of "devel", "user", or "cvslog".
