i've installed alsaplayer 0.99.70 with mad, but couldn't reproduce this behavior on mine, pmac with screamer chip. playback of mp3 works fine. what happens if you remove the config file of alsaplayer? strace would be also helpful in such a case. btw, 0.99.70 will fail to compile with gcc 3.1. the attached patch will fix the problem.
