Hi, I'm having two separate problems with my Sound Blaster Live! Value
card -- one related to four-speaker support, the other related to MIDI.
First, some system information:
[daniel@bok]/home/daniel(9): uname -a
Linux bok.har 2.4.17 #1 Sat Feb 9 09:44:48 PST 2002 i686 unknown
Debian Unstable
Installed ALSA Packages:
------------------------
alsa-base 0.9+0beta10-5
alsa-headers 0.9+0beta10-5
alsa-modules-2.4.17 0.9+0beta10-5+p0+bok.0
alsa-source 0.9+0beta10-5
alsa-utils 0.9.0beta10a-2
libasound1 0.5.10b-1
libasound2 0.9.0beta10a-3
libasound2-dev 0.9.0beta10a-3
Okay, now the problems:
1) When I play MIDI files, only my front speakers are used. With
Wave output, only my rear speakers are used. I'd prefer if all
four speakers were used in both cases. :)
I've tried playing around with the settings in alsamixer, but I
couldn't find any way to change the situation. I presume it has
something to do with the way the routing is set up on the card, but
the information in SB-Live-mixer.txt is either too lacking or too far
over my head for me to understand. :)
I can send the output of amixer if necessary, although I'm currently
just using whichever control settings the drivers default to.
2) I'm having trouble getting MIDI working. I'd like to use it to play
MIDI files on the card's synth, and later, to hook up a keyboard via
the game port. Here are the modules loaded by Debian's alsa init.d
script:
[daniel@bok]/home/daniel(1): lsmod
Module Size Used by Tainted: P
snd-seq-oss 23264 0 (unused)

"modprobe snd-synth-emu10k1" adds
snd-synth-emu10k1 3712 0 (unused)
snd-synth-emux 23488 0 [snd-synth-emu10k1]
With these modules loaded, pmidi -l doesn't list any open ports. I
_am_ able to use sfxload to load soundfonts, and "playmidi -a" to
play them on the card's synth, however. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!
Daniel
