I have a Vaio 505JE with an

sound chip.
The laptop has an internal mic and a connector for an external mic.
The internal mic works fine (except fan and disk noise, it picks up), but when
I plug in the external mic, none of the mics works any more, i.e. the
internal mic is automatically muted.

The Boost works on the internal mic, it has no effect on the external mic.
When the external mic is plugged, the Mic Select makes no difference.

Any hint how to get the external mic working is welcome.
