I've got ALSA working fine on SuSE 7.1 / custom 2.4.5 kernel with emu10k1 and es18xx cards (I have two cards :) )
I recently tried to upgrade it to DevFS. DevFS works fine, except that alsa stops working. Although the modules modprobe OK, no alsa program will work; they claim not to have any soundcards present. Nor do OSS programs work - they complain of no /dev/dsp, /dev/mixer, etc...
