When I record at 8 bit 8000hz mono, everything works fine. when i
record at cd quality, i get mostly .5-1s noise chunks with some pieces
of the orginal sounds in the recording. i have tried with rec/play,
arecord/aplay, and ecasound so far. none of these have reported any
errors. i've tried in and out of X, i'm pretty confident it's a
driver related issue.

I'm running alsa 0.9.0b6 with a Hoontech YMF-744B card on a
Celeron-400/196M system. I use debian, use packages
from unstable and from the demudi distribution, and am
trying to avoid compiling myself. I'm using a lowlatency
kernel, and have tried both with and without tuning my
hard drive ( hdparm -u1 -c1 -d1 -X66 -m16 /dev/hda )

I found some things in the Alsa-HOWTO about fragment buffers
and sizes that looked promising, but my /proc/asound format
didn't match up with what was in the howto, and i didn't
see anything about fragment buffers in it.

I've included a few things, I don't know what info is most helpful
in a case like this.

many thanx,
lewis
