i was pleased to verify yesterday that my 2.2.19 kernel will support either the OSS drivers, or the ALSA drivers, whichever is loaded. i run the same kernel (built from the same config) on my server and on a set of diskless workstations, and when i upgraded everything to ALSA to better support a couple of Gus Max cards i have, it broke support for a couple of Aztech Galaxys i have. now that i've added the OSS sgalaxy driver module back into the mix, all my systems are fine, some running ALSA, some running OSS. the /dev directories are even compatible (which is only really important since i have scripts to create them), since ALSA preserves the OSS nodes properly.
so -- my question -- is the ALSA/OSS compatibility something that is supposed to work by design, or am i just lucky today. either way, i hope that it can be maintained, at least until ALSA provides a full proper superset of OSS functionality. paul =--------------------- paul fox, [EMAIL PROTECTED] (arlington, ma, where it's 36.1 degrees) _______________________________________________ Alsa-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
