I have a Compaq presario with a via686 chipset.
I'm running RH7.0 with kernel 2.4.9.

I have recompiled the kernel so it includes
sound card support, but not it's own via module.
I compiled and installed alsa-driver-0.9.0beta8a,
and the lib and util files for that version as well.

Everything seems to work and I can run /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound start
just fine, But when I run amixer it tells me
"amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory"

Some time ago (before I upgraded to 2.4.9) I had alsa
running on this system. I'd appreciate any ideas that
might help get it running again.
