Hello,

I'm not sure where to look, and I have tried. I recently upgraded from
RH 6.2 to 7.2 and although my sound works for CD and wav files, etc.,
there is a program RAT which I need and which always reports No Audio
Device.

The frustrating thing is that with an older version of RAT and with RH
6.2 and the alsa drivers for my card, things were fine. Now, with RH
7.2, newer version of RAT and non-alsa drivers I can not get RAT to see
the card.

I am also confused about the note in the How-To Sound document that says
/dev/sndstat should not be relied upon anymore.

Right now:

cat /dev/sndstat
cat: /dev/sndstat: No such device

The card is an on-board sound in a Dell Precision 420. I think it is a
Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24.

lsmod says:

cs46xx 56400 0 (autoclean)
ac97_codec 9536 0 (autoclean) [cs46xx]
soundcore 4848 3 (autoclean) [cs46xx]

I used the snd-card-CS461x driver from alsa when I was RH 6.2.

Any advice on what to check to see why RAT doesn't work will be greatly
appreciated. Do you think it is a problem with RAT?

I am not a linux expert.

Thanks.

Mike
