Hi all, I regret to report that problem continues...
Today I gave Alsa 0.5.12a a try, as well as recompiling the kernel again and trying a number of different variations of modules.conf. In spite of all this the sytem has the same symptoms: modprobe and /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound start do not give any error messages, but... xmms and mpg123 give -> /dev/dsp: No such device amixer gives -> amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory cat /proc/asound/sndstat gives -> Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v0.9.0beta8a emulation code) Kernel: Linux athlon 2.4.17 #6 Fri Jan 18 22:16:40 EST 2002 i686 Config options: 0 Installed drivers: Type 10: ALSA emulation Card config: --- no soundcards --- If no one knows what the problem is, I would be happy hearing what it is not.
