I've tried it for the ens1370 this weekend and just now for the ymf724.
Exactly the same results ...
/proc/asound/cards reports the right card, syslog says:
kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:0c.0
... /proc/asound/card1/pci0 don't exist, and /proc/asound/sndstat
states, that there isn't AUDIO, SYNTH, MIDI and MIXERS enabled in
config.
... I think with these versions of ALSA is something VEEEEERY strange.
