Hi
I too would like to have 4 ears, however I don't have a asound.conf, but
an asound.state
Will editing this have the same effect??(I have run alsactl store nad no
asound.conf file was generated...)

Because EMU10K1 uses the matrix mixer and it's difficult to control this

sort of mixer via single bars in one window. We really need a special
mixer application for EMU10K1 for the easy access to all routing
settings.
