I had been using the Alsa sound system for awhile, until one day, it seems, that Linux (I dual boot this machine with Windows) just stopped playing any sound. I don't recall doing anything to any Alsa files just before this happened. So its like something happened to my Linux sound that was unprovoked on the software side of Alsa. When I boot into Windows it uses the sound card seemingly without any problems.
Could there be something wrong with my sound card that the Alsa drivers or Linux doesn't like but the Windows drivers have no problem with?? Could there be another Linux application that I intervertingly installed that could be intefering with Alsa or Linux and the soundcard?? Could I possibly be forgetting something simple I should be doing? Applications that use sound such as CD player, Alsaplayer, Realplayer, etc run as usual except there just isn't any sound. I have checked the Alsamixer levels and they are set up correctly. That application continues to automagically start up upon boot with my preset values. I am using Debian (2.4.9). The soundcard is a SB PCI 512 (EMU10K). The versions of Alsa are: driver - 0.5.11, lib - 0.5.10b and utils - 0.5.10. The following is the Alsa content in my modules.conf file. alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-card-emu10k1 alias char-major-14 soundcore alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 snd_device_mode=0660 snd_device_gid=29 snd_device_uid=0 options snd-card-emu10k1 snd_index=0 snd_id=LIVE! snd_dac_frame_size=60 snd_adc_frame_size=30 All this was once working but now I can not get anything out of the sound card with Linux for some obscure reason. If anyone has any ideas I would certainly appreciate your input. hoffy _______________________________________________ Alsa-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
