Hi, 

I'm also trying to use an RME digi96/8 card in ADAT mode (and Dutch
too;). For experimenting I found ecasound
(http://www.wakkanet.fi/~kaiv/ecasound/) very useful, although I'm not
getting spotless sound from the card yet. You claim being able to play a
wave file over the first two channels. How does it sound? Clean? 

It seems to me that what you want calls for Jack
(http://jackit.sourceforge.net/). I'll be using it next month building
clients that work on one or two channels at a time in separate
processes.

So, let's keep eachother informed!
