You won't be able to get the KDE midi programs to work, except for 
kmidi. If,however, kmidi was compiled with ALSA support it probably 
won't work either. KDE 2.x does not support the Alsa 0.9 API. KDE 3 
does, so you'll have to upgrade to it if you want to use it. You can 
get binary packages from SuSE's ftp server. I don't know whether 
upgrading KDE will fix noteedit though.
Non-KDE programs should work fine as long as they support ALSA 0.9 or 
use the OSS sequencer interface.
