If,however, kmidi was compiled with ALSA support it probably won't work either. KDE 2.x does not support the Alsa 0.9 API. KDE 3 does, so you'll have to upgrade to it if you want to use it. You can get binary packages from SuSE's ftp server. I don't know whether upgrading KDE will fix noteedit though. Non-KDE programs should work fine as long as they support ALSA 0.9 or use the OSS sequencer interface.
