I meant things like progress bar, time played display in XMMS and such :)
Does an audio CD work? And you unmuted and raised volumes for relevant 
channels right?

(Also) post to the list, someone else may have a solution and if you find a
solution and post it to the list it will be stored in the mailing list 
archive which other ALSA users can search ;) HTH,
