Hello everyone,

Years ago I bought a dumb MIDI keyboard ( Target TRG-MK10 ), dumb in the sense
that it doesn't generate sounds itself, it uses the soundcard for that.
The software that I used back in the days I used Windows was KeyWest from
Evolution Electronics. It was an el-cheapo keyboard and simple software,
but for some casual playing music it was a nice combination.

Now maybe a year ago I did an attempt to get the keyboard to work with Linux,
but the best I could get was with software synthesizer ( don't know anymore
what software exactly I was using ), but it didn't really sound smooth, so I
gave up. Now I want to try again, I hope you have some ideas to make it work.

Questions :

- My soundcard is a VIA 82C686A, integrated in the MSI K7T Pro ( KT133 )
motherboard. Does this card have synthesizer hardware inside ?
- If it has synthesizer hardware, how to make use of it ?
- If it doesn't, which software synthesis can I best use ?
- Or should I buy a better sound card, even for casual playing music ?

P.S. Hope I used the right terminology, I'm far from a MIDI expert :-)

Best regards,

Eric
