What Frans means is that you already have the OSS (standard kernel sound
system) module loaded to drive your soundcard.  You'll need to rmmod
es1371 before you try to load ALSA - otherwise the two drivers compete
for the same card and ALSA will fail to load.

As a permanent fix, you'll probably want to remove (or comment out)
whichever line in modules.conf (if you're using kmod) or in your init
scripts is loading the es1371 module.  (Sorry, I don't use debian, so I
don't know quite how it boots)
