To those who helped me, thanks. Matt, you were right; there were a couple other things i needed to do that I couldn't quite find. Did some research and found some more detailed instructions on making the /etc/modules.conf and .asoundrc file, and some other stuff. THAT I found online and possibly overlooked in the INSTALL file. Well, it's working-- playing sound so far. I have to test to see how she records now.
As to the other quirk, I'm seeing a message like this at boot time: modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate snt-card-1 modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate snt-card-2 modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate snt-card-3 modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate snt-card-4 modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate snt-card-5 modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate snt-card-6 modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate snt-card-7 However, my card is loading up. I put a modprobe soundcore (and all the other modules I need) in my /etc/rc.d/rc.si script. I don't know why it's looking for seven more cards other than card0. I also haven't been having a good time getting the options entered for the snd-ens1371 module. I'm still researching that one.
