In alsamixer you need to turn capture on. You do this by going to the input in question and hitting the space bar. Then you should see some text saying capture. Make sure you adjust the input level as well.

I have installed alsa-driver-0.9.0.rc1 in linux 2.4.19 and I can use aplay to play sound .But why I cannot use arecord to record the sound.I have use alsamixer to unmute the corresponding item.Where maybe the error exist?Hope for your answer.
