Hello, I'm trying to get the onboard sound for a Dell Dimension 4500 working. I've tried the kernel (2.5.40) ALSA intel8x0 drivers, but "cat /dev/dsp" gives the error message "No such device". I didn't get any error messages when loading the drivers, but I never saw a message stating that a device was found either. What simple stuff should I check first?
Should I try downloading and installing ALSA drivers directly? If so, I run debian, is there a debian way to do it? I greatly appreciate any help you can offer. I find it amazing that ALSA supports as many cards as it does. Thank you, Joe Hendrix lspci provides the following information about the card: 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24c5 (rev 01) Here's the modules I have loaded: I loaded everything that seemed marginally related to make sure I didn't forget one. :) Module Size Used by Not tainted snd-seq-oss 24608 0 (unused) snd-seq-midi-event 3496 0 [snd-seq-oss] snd-seq 38192 2 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event] snd-pcm-oss 38148 0 (unused) snd-mixer-oss 9068 0 [snd-pcm-oss] snd-intel8x0 10144 0 (unused) snd-pcm 55936 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-intel8x0] snd-timer 10328 0 [snd-seq snd-pcm] snd-ac97-codec 24484 0 [snd-intel8x0] snd-mpu401-uart 3088 0 [snd-intel8x0] snd-rawmidi 12736 0 [snd-mpu401-uart] snd-seq-device 3920 0 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq snd-rawmidi] snd 27044 0 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-ac97-codec snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device] soundcore 3844 0 [snd] ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Alsa-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
